PREVENTION DIRECTORY ARC MANOR ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTER Prevention Programs for children through adults
ARIN Programs: ARIN Drug and Alcohol Prevention Programs Funding Source: Local, State, Federal Funds: Armstrong and Indiana Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. *Note: ARIN is the only Intermediate Unit in Pennsylvania to have a license for Drug and Alcohol Education. Population Served: Students, teachers, parents, and community members in Armstrong and Indiana Counties. Synopsis: Provides the state mandated Act 211 drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention education, which gives a clear no-use message for students in grades K-6 in Armstrong and Indiana Counties. Works with all middle, junior, and senior high schools in Armstrong and Indiana Counties to co-facilitate skills groups and education groups focusing on drug, alcohol, and tobacco use among children and adolescents. Offers an Underage Users’ Program, in cooperation with county district justices, for youth involved in underage drinking. Offers a Juvenile Justice Program, in cooperation with the county probation office(s), for youth involved in delinquent behaviors. Offers an EAS (Educational Alternatives to Shoplifting) Program for youth identified as first time offenders. Offers Tobacco Education Groups to teens involved in tobacco use in school or on school property. Offers Conflict Resolution Training for school districts in Armstrong and Indiana Counties. Provides education and information for community groups, school groups, parent groups, agencies, and businesses. Provides the Department of Transportation Education for employees and supervisors with a commercial driver’s license. Chevy Chase Prevention Program Funding Source: Local, State, Federal Funds: Armstrong and Indiana Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. Population Served: Children, ages 5-18 years, in the Chevy Chase community of Indiana Synopsis: Provides children and youth in the Chevy Chase community with the skills necessary to make healthy choices regarding alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and to identify appropriate activities that will ensure their physical and emotional development. Focuses on drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention education through a variety of educational and recreational activities. Focuses on activities to reinforce the cultural and ethnic background of the children such as the study and celebration of Black History Month in February, Kwanzaa in December and participation in many of IUP’s African American Cultural Center activities. Provides recreational opportunities during the school year and in summer, such as the Pittsburgh Pirate games, Kennywood Amusement Park, and IUP. Ford City Youth ProgramFunding Source: Armstrong-Indiana Drug/Alcohol Commission, Inc.
