The mission of the Tobacco Free Coalitions is to be a clearinghouse to help build the capacity of community-based organizations so they can facilitate comprehensive tobacco control initiatives.

To improve the health of the community by reducing the chronic disease burden of Tobacco.

The Coalitions are a core group of volunteers from various organizations and other segments of the community. Who work together toward the common goal of building and maintaining the Tobacco Free Coalitions through prevention, education and cessation.

Specific County Objectives

Indiana and Armstrong County’s Tobacco Free Coalitions are responsible for these objectives:

bulletBuild and maintain tobacco prevention, education and cessation coalitions
bulletIncrease the number of county youth and adult residents being educated on the dangers of tobacco use by 20% to help the commonwealth reduce the consumption of tobacco products
bulletIncrease youth participation in community tobacco coalitions by 10%.
bulletIncrease the utilization of state development campaigns by 10%.
bulletIncrease the utilization of state developed tobacco prevention/cessation media campaigns by 10%.
bulletIncrease media messages to specific minority and disparate populations disproportionately affected by tobacco by 10%.
bulletIncrease the number of counter marketing efforts in the county by 10%.
bulletReduce illegal sales of tobacco products to county to persons under the age of 18 to less than 20%.
bulletConduct enforcement/compliance checks in 100% of county tobacco sales outlets for the age of sale law at least 3 times per year.
bulletIncrease the number of smoke-free public and private facilities in the county by 10%.
bulletIncrease to 95% the number of restaurants in compliance with the Clean Indoor Air Act.
bulletEducate 10 medical personnel to utilize the Clinical Practice Guidelines in counseling and referring patients to approved tobacco cessation programs including the tobacco cessation quitting.
